The Resist US-Led War Movement applauds the Ansar Allah movement's momentous victories in Yemen against the US-backed and heavily armed Saudi military and mercenary forces. With an unbreakable unity of purpose, Ansar Allah with its Yemeni Armed Forces allies defied the double onslaught of decades-long sanctions and renewed military attacks to secure sovereign control over the entire western coast of Yemen. This achievement deals a blow to US imperialist and Zionist designs for the region and carries the Yemeni people one step forward in the struggle for the liberation of their entire country.
The successful Ansar Allah operation was launched in the broader regional context of the U.S.-Zionist wars of aggression on Palestine and Iran that have engulfed all of West Asia. Since the start of the US-Zionist genocide on Palestine, Yemen has been a beacon of international solidarity. As a staunch link in the Axis of Resistance, Yemen's Ansar Allah movement has fired on ships intending to dock at Israeli ports, fired at Zionist military facilities in occupied Haifa, and even launched missiles at the U.S. aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman in order to effectively carry out an economic blockade of the Red Sea and inflict major impacts on the Israeli economy. In retaliation, both the Biden and Trump regimes carried out murderous aerial assaults against Yemen in 2024-2025, conducting more than 1,600 bombings on both military targets and in civilian populated areas which killed at least 300 people and injured hundreds more. This followed years of sanctions imposed by the U.S. and war launched in 2015 by the U.S.-armed lapdog Saudi Arabia which had subjected Yemen to extreme famine and starvation, air raids, destruction of infrastructure, and mass displacement, resulting in the deaths of at least 200,000 people. While Ansar Allah and Saudi Arabia had established a tenuous truce in 2022, the U.S. continued its suffocating sanctions on Yemen. That the Yemeni people persisted in demonstrating their solidarity with Palestine under the severe collective punishment that they themselves were experiencing is a testament to their unwavering solidarity. Renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and Ansar Allah restarted following the breakdown of the U.S.-Iran MOU in July, which had been aimed at extending a 60-day ceasefire across all fronts, an agreement which was incessantly violated by the U.S., "Israel," and other imperialist proxies and puppets of the U.S. in the Gulf. While the U.S. launched new attacks on Iran and the Zionist attacks on Iran and Lebanon continued, Saudi Arabia launched missile strikes on Yemen's Sanaa Airport. In response, Ansar Allah launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against Saudi airport and energy infrastructure, repelled a weak and fragmented ground offensive by the U.S.-armed and Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), outsmarted the Saudi air assault, and enacted a naval blockade of the Bab al-Mandab Strait. In a matter of days, Ansar Allah successfully beat back the Saudi-aligned forces to secure control over the key western coastal areas of Mokha, Dhubab, and Mayyun Island, giving them dominance over the vital Red Sea shipping corridor. Despite having hundreds of U.S.-supplied fighter jets and far more heavy artillery than Ansar Allah, Saudi Arabia and its divided, mercenary allies were quickly defeated by the Ansar Allah forces, who were determined to reclaim the sovereign land of all of Yemen for the Yemeni people. This victory has far-reaching consequences for West Asia and beyond. With Iran's control over the Strait of Hormuz and now Ansar Allah's control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the Axis of Resistance holds two of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints. Together, roughly 35% of global trade of food supplies, gas and oil--including Saudi oil--flows through these two Straits. The Axis of Resistance can exert even greater pressure on global maritime traffic by blocking shipments or imposing fees for passage through the Straits, without imposing an outright blockade by selectively allowing countries which do not support the U.S.-Zionist wars to pass through. This also further weakens key U.S. ally Saudi Arabia by cutting off both the east and west passages for its oil exports, compounding the monarchy's vulnerability after the military rout it just suffered. Once again, the Axis of Resistance has clearly exposed the weaknesses of U.S. imperialism's reliance on military firepower, puppets and proxy forces motivated only by the drive to expand profits. With this victory in Yemen, Ansar Allah has hammered home the lesson that the struggle of the people of Iran, Palestine, Yemen, and Lebanon, rooted in the defense of national sovereignty, will triumph over imperialist and Zionist aggression and occupation. The anti-war movement must stand in solidarity with the people of Yemen as they fight to defend their victory and for the liberation of their country from all outside forces. Comments are closed.
